This renowned private members’ golf club is celebrating its Centenary in 2007. Its founder, Alfred Lovekin, had the foresight at the outset to engage Harry Vardon as designer. Vardon’s original layout was subsequently enhanced by Harry S Colt, whose famous upswept bunker faces adorn the course on 96 occasions to trap the bad and, sometimes not so bad, shot.
Over the years, the Club has flourished and has staged many top Professional and Amateur events. It stages annually, in April, the Peter McEvoy Trophy for the best juniors in the Country and Europe, won in the past by Peter Baker, Lee Westwood, Brian Davis, Steve Webster & Justin Rose. Certainly, anyone visiting the Club can be confident that they will have a very enjoyable game, where they will need to play well to achieve a good score, followed by a warm welcome in the well appointed clubhouse.
