One of the oldest links courses in England, there are few golf clubs in the world prouder of their history than Seaton Carew. Following the formation of other clubs in the area, the club changed its name to Seaton Carew Golf Club in 1887 and was extended from fourteen to eighteen holes by 1891. And though McQuaig died before the completion of the course, his legacy remains today in the superb test that is Seaton Carew. Further design work was carried out by Alister Mackenzie, of Augusta National fame, in 1925, while four more holes were added in 1974. Today, with a total of 22 holes, Seaton Carew offers two sequences of play - the Old Course, which more or less retains the original Mackenzie layout; and the championship Brabazon Course, which incorporates the four new holes added in 1974. Given the two courses at Seaton Carew share fourteen holes, both layouts are definitely worth playing but it is the Brabazon Course that is rated as the championship venue.
