Set amidst the towering Victorian villas of Southport's premier residential area - Hesketh Park and established in 1885, The Hesketh is the oldest club in Southport and is regularly chosen for Final Qualifying when The Open arrives across town at Royal Birkdale. Standing alone on the crest of a tall sandhill, the clubhouse dominates the golf course. Part links and part parkland, the distinctive challenge of the course is that half of the holes meander through tall sand dunes, while the other half border the Ribble estuary. The signature hole is the 388 yard par 4 fourteenth. On this hole you will require an accurate tee shot as trouble on both sides of the fairway awaits those stray drives. This course is at its most testing when the prevailing wind is blowing in off the sea. Some of the other best holes lie between the sandhills and the clubhouse, particularly the 18th, an impressive, lengthy finishing hole.
