This course is the truest links you will find in all England and the Royal & Ancient, in its wisdom, chose Royal St George's for major championships knowing it will find the pedigree player at the end of the week. Close to the sea the course overlooks Pegwell Bay and any kind of wind can make this man size test even tougher. The sandhills in the front nine are the largest of any Open course and are used to great effect. The fairways with the possible exception of St. Andrews are the lumpiest of the current rota of Open courses, and thus can produce unpredictable bounces. Since its first Open in 1894 and the first on English soil, Royal St. Georges has been host some twelve times with Scott Hamilton winning the 12th in 2003. The previous winner Greg Norman conquered the field in 1993 but not the links. There are natural hazards aplenty on this remarkable links. Numerous huge dunes and the many undulations that this magnificent links is renowned for leaves many a great score in the lap of the Gods. Patience and control are vital if you wish to score well here.
