The West Sussex Golf Club, or Pulborough as it is also popularly known, was designed by two outstanding golf architects, Guy Campbell and Cecil Hutchinson and completed in 1930, although it was not officially opened until 23rd April 1931. This private members club, featured in many books, the course is in the top 100 in the British Isles in the World Atlas of Golf. An outstanding beautiful heathland course occupying an oasis of sand, heather and pine in the middle of attractive countryside which is predominantly clay and marsh. The late Henry Longhurst wrote particularly affectionately about the course and Sir Peter Allen, in his book 'Play the Best Courses', rates two holes at West Sussex, the 6th and the 13th as the best inland holes in the British Isles.
