Perranporth is a challenging 18 hole championship links course designed in 1927 by five times Open Champion James Braid. Even after 79 years the original layout has not been changed, a real tribute to a good design. Perranporth is a seaside course and has an advantage over many other courses in that there are magnificent views of the North Cornwall coastline overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Even if one is playing indifferent golf, enjoyment of the game can be maintained by the beautiful scenery and bracing sea air. One should pause for a few moments on the 5th & 14th tees, where the setting and views are as fine as anywhere in the world. James Braid took full advantage of the natural contours of the land giving all holes an individuality and different character. It was easy to give each hole a distinctive Cornish name. The fairways are typical links texture providing good, firm lies for wood and iron shots to the greens. There is nothing artificial about the course, even the few bunkers are developments of necessity. Perranporth is an exciting and vastly interesting course demanding concentration for every shot.
