The Groes is a revelation for those who mourn the passing of the great British inn - a traditional refuge of travellers, which blends the warm welcome of a local pub with the homely comforts of a good bed and wholesome food. As the first licensed house in Wales, The Groes Inn has kept the spirit of hospitality alive for more than four centuries. It's character is timeless. Portmeirion Hotel, nr Harlech |
Portmeirion Hotel and Village was the unique creation of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis 75 years ago. His ambition was to develop a beautiful location without spoiling it. The hotel enjoyed a celebrated clientele from the start: George Bernard Shaw, Bertrand Russell and H G Wells were habitués; Noel Coward wrote Blithe Spirit here during two weeks in 1941. In 1966 it was the setting for the cult television series The Prisoner, starring Patrick McGoohan. Today the village has matured and brings to mind a piece of Tuscany on the Welsh coast. As such, it provides an enchanting escape from today’s busy life. Bedrooms are within the main hotel, or spread throughout the cottages that make up the village.

Penhelig Arms, Aberdovey |
Set in the pretty coastal village of Aberdovey, the Penhelig Arms combines the qualities of a small welcoming hotel, a friendly pub and a fine seafood restaurant. A congenial atmosphere seems to emanate from within the whitewashed walls of Penhelig Arms. Perhaps it’s the cosy setting, being a traditional old inn many of the public areas, the reception, the private lounge and the bar are small, or perhaps it’s the friendly banter of the host and head barman that makes you feel you’ve been around Penhelig Arms for years.
The bedrooms are set within the main hotel or above and behind in more recent new accommodation. Most of the rooms within the hotel have views across the estuary or over the mountains and all are tastefully designed and well equipped. The more modern extension houses extremely spacious rooms with contemporary laid back décor and sizable bathrooms with heated flooring.
The restaurant’s reputation is what the hotel is largely built upon; the menu offers a huge variety of seafood, simply cooked with one essential ingredient – the freshness of the fish.

Ye Olde Bulls Head Inn, Beaumaris |
Ye Olde Bulls Head Inn, or The Bull as it is more commonly known, is a find of unquestionable pedigree! An oasis of quality set in one of the most picturesque parts of Wales and indeed the United Kingdom. Lying to the south east of the Isle of Anglesey the town of Beaumaris commands breathtaking views of the Menai Strait and Snowdonia. Constructed in 1472 The Bull was the original coaching house of the Borough and a staging post on the route to Ireland. Situated a mere stone’s throw from the imposing gates of Edward I’s 13th century castle, it is inextricably linked with the town’s history. Private ownership through the years has ensured the building has evolved sympathetically to a point where today’s guests enjoy levels of comfort and quality of the highest order. The standard of cuisine in both The Restaurant and Brasserie attracts praise in major food guides and international journals alike. That ultimate sense of relaxation and wellbeing however, comes not just from the calibre of service but from the manner in which it is delivered. A sense of pride and belonging make for courteous, friendly and efficient staff who will guarantee to make your stay truly memorable.

Bulkeley Hotel, Beaumaris, Anglesey |
Built as a Georgian show pice in 1832, the Bulkeley Hotel is a Grade 1 listed building and a very fine example of the Victorian House builder's art. It bears the evidence of the pride these people took in their craft but does not suffer from the over indulgence that typified so much architecture and builder's workmanship in the middle of the nineteenth century. The building is elegant in its proportions, the shape and size of the rooms betraying the natural good taste of its architect Mr. Hansom, the same man that gave his name to Hansom Cabs.Real Ale bars and lounges with log fires .The hotel now has 43 bedrooms, a fine restaurant, coffee shop, and cocktail lounge. All 43 bedrooms including private suites and family rooms have full en-suite facilities, with a lift to all floors.
