Edinburgh , the inspiring capital of Scotland, is a historic, cosmopolitan and cultured city. The setting is wonderfully striking; the city is perched on a series of extinct volcanoes and rocky crags which rise from the generally flat landscape of the Lothians, with the sheltered shoreline of the Firth of Forth to the north. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city-centre skyline and from its ramparts you can look down on medieval lanes and elegant, sweeping terraces that hold over a thousand years of history, mystery and tradition. Yet you will also see a modern, dynamic capital where international festivals attract the world's leading performers, galleries display cutting-edge art, and bars, restaurants and clubs create a lively, cosmopolitan atmosphere with a distinctly Scottish twist. ' Edinburgh,' said writer Robert Louis Stevenson, 'is what Paris ought to be'.

GOLF

Gullane no.2

Gullane No.2 Course was built in 1898 and the first and last holes of the course are on the east side of the A198 road. The Course runs alongside No.1 for the first seven holes and then sweeps down to the nature reserve next to Aberlady Bay, before turning back towards the Visitors' Clubhouse. One feature of the Course is its excellent short holes, particularly the 11th with its magnificent view and tricky club selection. There's an overriding feeling of openness at Gullane. The sky is big and the course seems wide and open, but it is an illusion: each hole has its fair share of trouble and it lulls you into a false sense of security. Gullane No.2 has played host to Open Championship Final Qualifying, so it's certainly not a pushover.

Turnhouse Golf Club

Turnhouse is situated in the west side of Edinburgh but is still within close distance of the city centre. The Kingdom of Fife is just a short drive over the Forth and being close to the airport with easy access from all major road links, it is ideally placed for travelling golfers. Turnhouse is a James Braid-designed course with excellent views of both the Ochills and the Pentlands. A par of 69 with a standard scratch of 70 ensures this is a testing outing for all levels of golfer

Mortonhall Golf Club

Founded in 1892, Mortonhall is the oldest course in the City of Edinburgh over which golf is still played and is rightly regarded as one of Scotland's premier clubs. A championship test of 6502 yards, the course boasts magnificent mature silver birch, fir, pine, sycamore and cherry trees, not to mention immaculate fairways. The course enjoys a rich natural environment comprising diverse habitats that support a wide range of flora and fauna as well as unrivalled views across Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth and the Pentland Hills. It is simply, one of the best courses in the Lothians.
