Burnham & Berrow Golf Club is one of the most natural Championship links courses which stretch down the west coast of England from Royal Birkdale in the north to Westward Ho! in the south.

A game of two halves

Burnham & Berrow Golf Club was formed in 1890 and a nine hole course laid out on a strip of land known as the Warren between the prosperous town of Burnham and the relatively poor village of Berrow. The development of the course took thirty years to reach today’s shape and many of the leading course designers during that period leant a hand, including Herbert Fowler (a Burnham member), Harold Hilton and Dr. Alistair MacKenzie; but the shape of today’s course is mainly due to Harry Colt.

Throughout the years, Burnham and Berrow has gained an honoured place in British golf and has hosted practically every major championship in the amateur game. Although not an easy course to play on, the layout is not unduly harsh on the moderate player and it exudes a tremendous charm, which grows on you the more you play here.

In good company

Over the years, the Championship Course at Burnham and Berrow has been the site of many of the biggest tournaments in England. It has hosted the English Men's Amateur Championship, as well as the English Ladies Amateur Championship. Also, the British PGA Seniors Championship, and Burnham and Berrow is the permanent home to the West of England Open Amateur Championship.

A classic out and back links dating to 1890, Burnham & Berrow is set amidst rolling dunes adjacent to the Bristol Channel. Tight fairways, fast, true greens and some spectacular vistas combine to produce what is without doubt one of the UK's most sensational golf courses.

Well kept secret

Given its undoubted charm and natural feel, Burnham and Berrow ought to be better known. But we think, that only adds to the delight of playing it, because nine times out of ten, you'll have the course mainly to yourself, and the odd member !
