In the heart of the Edinburgh Golf Coast

The Glen Golf Club, North Berwick plays its golf on the East Links in North Berwick, in the heart of the famous Edinburgh Golf Coast. The course is situated just a few miles from Muirfield and Gullane and is readily accessible by road. The course offers some testing and beautiful holes to enjoy, laid out in a combination of inland turf and traditional links setting in a coastal location. The authoritative journal Golf In East Lothian written by John Kerr and published in 1896, asserts that golf was first played in North Berwick on the East Links (known as Rhodes Links) as far back as the end of the 17th century. The course was formally opened in April 1894, followed by a match between Ben Sayers and Hugh Kirkcaldy (Open Champion 1891) from Oxford.

A dream finish

The course signature hole, the Sea Hole, nestles amongst the rocks and the beach in the shadow of the famous Bass Rock bird sanctuary, featured regularly by BBC TV. The par three is included in Golf World's "Dream 18 holes" and graces the cover of the popular book "The Most Extraordinary Golf Holes in Britain." A Memorable round reaches a stunning climax with a drive from an elevated 18th tee offering spectacular views of North Berwick, the Firth of Forth and its famous islands which include Fidra, the inspiration for Robert Louis Stephenson's "Treasure Island".

What people say

"Often overlooked by visitors is the nearby East Links, better known as The Glen, home to the Glen Golf Club and as welcoming an institution as you will ever come across. Barely a century old, The Glen may lack the seniority of its more famous neighbour, but any comparative youth is more than made up for by buckets full of charm, personality and the genuine Scottish golf experience it bestows on each and every visitor."  PGA Tour website Course of the Month December, 2006

"Do not listen to anyone who suggests North Berwick West is all North Berwick has to offer. There is also the East Course which not only offers great golfing holes but glorious vistas, especially on a late summer's evening." Alex Hay, BBC and Sky TV golfing commentator
