South African twist

Tucked away in the beautiful and mysterious stunning Somerset landscape - an area steeped in legend and spectacular beauty, Woodlands Country House Hotel is far from the bustle of everyday life yet close to some spectacular sightseeing and the gateway to England's Atlantic Links golf courses.

Woodlands lies at the foot of Brent Knoll, set in four acres of grounds leading to countryside walks and stunning scenery. South African Owners, Peter and Glenda Botes are incredibly attentive hosts and genuinely believe nothing is too much trouble for their guests.

Sweet dreams

The bedrooms are individual, comfortable and classically decorated and all have fantastic country views. There are many personal touches in each room and the views through the sash windows unfold way into the distance.

Peter & Glenda have accumulated a fascinating collection of art, which is on display throughout the hotel - do ask Glenda to explain the story behind some of the infamous 'fakes' on display as well.

Eat your hearts out

The restaurant at Woodlands has built up an enthusiastic local following and imaginative, creative dishes are served in the charming Victorian dining room. Peter and Glenda are assisted by a dedicated team to give you the finest dining experience. The menu changes according to the season.

After a day discovering the rolling fairways of nearby Burnham & Berrow, you’ll deserve a delicious cream tea or before dinner head to the cosy bar for an aperitif. And if you're into your wines, they have a seriously impressive selection of South African wines to tempt you.

Burnham and Berrow
Weston super Mare

Burnham & Berrow Golf Club is one of the natural Championship links courses which stretch down the west coast of England from Royal Birkdale in the north to Westward Ho! in the south. Throughout the years, Burnham has gained an honoured place in golf; it is a great test and although not easy its layout is such that it is not unduly harsh on moderate players. Burnham has played host to English Mens and Ladies Amateur Championships, and the PGA Seniors Championship. This is a real gem, and well worth a visit not just for the course itself but also marvellous, almost unrivalled panoramic views across the Somerset Hills and the Bristol Channel.

Weston is an attractive Links Course situated at the southern end of Weston-Super-Mare Bay, with superb views across the Bristol Channel. The golf course at Weston dates back to 1892 with the great golf course designer Dr. Alistair Mackenzie, famous for The Masters at the Augusta National USA, adding to Weston splendour in 1922 with the course design you play today. Their signature hole is the 15th, a 458 yard par 4, which is reputedly modelled on the 17th at St. Andrews Old Course. The course is an easy walk, with generous fairways but the wind often plays a decisive role in making a good score on this challenging par 70 course.
