Located only 13 miles from the centre of London The Addington Golf Club is a world class golf course just waiting to be discovered. Designed in 1912 by John Frederick Abercromby (Aber) who was accredited as being 'one of the finest architects in all of golf', The Addington is a masterpiece of inland golf. The course has remained virtually unchanged since its design 95 years ago which is testament to the skilled design ability of Aber who looked upon The Addington as his finest creation.

Location, location

Like many great courses The Addington has the advantage of an ideal site. The fairways wander through mature pine and birch trees which create a real feeling of intimacy, yet the course still affords expansive views of the metropolis from hilltop tees like that at the 14th.

Crystal Palace's towering mast looms in the foreground, while the NatWest Tower, Canary Wharf and the incongruous Swiss Re building provide a marvellous contrast to the rich woodland.

Author's relish

The heart of the course begins at the Par 4 6th, made famous by the writings of PG Wodehouse who penned "anyone wishing to write to the author should address all correspondence to: PG Wodehouse, c/o the 6th bunker, The Addington Golf Club, Croydon, Surrey".

The acclaimed golfing writer and former member Henry Longhurst described the 230 yard par 3, 13th hole as 'with the exception of the fifth at Pine Valley, near Philadelphia, the greatest one-shot hole in inland golf'. The 16th is also included in his all time great golf holes.
