The Open Turnberry 2009

The majestic Westin Turnberry Golf Resort will host the 2009 British Open Championship from 16th-19th July. It will be the fourth time the Ayrshire course has staged the event since it was added to the Open roster in 1977.

That year will always will be remembered for the 'Duel in the Sun' between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus, eventually won by Watson by a single shot. Greg Norman won in 1986 thanks largely to a second-round 63 after opening with a 74, while Nick Price won in 1994 after a great battle with Jesper Parnevik.

With the sea by your side and that famous lighthouse in the distance, there are few courses in the world that can match Turnberry for beauty or excitement. And another name will join them in the summer of 2009 when the Open returns to the Ailsa.  Turnberry is also unique among the Open rota for the broad selection of superb links found nearby. Aside from its attachment to Robert Burns and whisky, this region is a literal treasure trove of sumptuous links courses - Royal Troon, Prestwick, Western Gailes, Barassie and West Kilbride to name but a few.
