Barcelona, the modern and exciting cosmopolitan city on the Mediterranean is also capital to a region of six million people, namely Catalonia, which is rapidly emerging as one of the finest areas in Europe for playing golf, with a great variety of top quality courses for all levels. The Costa Brava won the IAGT award as the world's emerging golf destination in the year 2000. But Catalonia is not just the home of some beautiful and testing golf courses; it is also famous for its culture, food and wine, the exciting day and nightlife of Barcelona, beautiful beaches and crystal waters, and most of all the warmth and friendliness of its people.

Inaugurated in April 2006, the hotel was a project of the Vichy Catalán group and PGA European Golf Courses assigned to the Godia & Barrio architects studio in Barcelona. The objective: to create an imposing, stunning and modern hotel integrated with its natural environment and absolutely unique for the region. The hotel had to blend in perfectly with its surroundings: two magnificent golf courses. The lobby is the authentic heart of the building, occupying a part of each floor and connecting them in a single quadruple space looking outwards onto nature. Each floor has a viewing area of both the outdoor scenery and the indoor design. The white and wavy building is a backdrop to the scenery, while the black stone at its base makes it appear to be floating on air. The restaurant terrace provides excellent views of the gardens to be enjoyed at breakfast, lunch or dinner in a setting of peace and tranquillity. The rooms are equipped with a wide range of facilities: golf motifs, an intelligent lighting system to help create different types of atmosphere. Each room has a bathroom with window allowing you to take a relaxing bath and watch your favourite TV programme at the same time.

Masia Bach Golf Club |

‘Masia Bach Golf Course’ was designed by Jose Maria Olazabal and founded in 1990. This is a very demanding and tight course even for the best of golfers and is sure to prove a test of character; the shorter 9-hole course however is less demanding and a pleasant playing experience. The readers of Golf Digest magazine recently voted ‘Masia Bach’ 5th best course in Catalonia. Set on the border of the Penedes wine growing region, Masia Bach Golf Club also commands some spectacular views of the Montserrat Mountain. |

The Terramar club in Sitges is the second oldest in Catalonia, being founded in 1922 and designed by FW Hawtree, Manuel Piñero and Jim Fazio. The microclimate of Sitges permits golf to be played in perfect conditions at any time of the year with beautiful views out over the Mediterranean. The course is not particularly difficult but greens strategically placed and water hazards on many holes tend to make life more difficult on this all-together pleasant course. The Sitges Terramar Golf Course has recently undergone some alteration work and counts on some superb putting surfaces. With over 300 days a year of sun, the Sitges Terramar Golf course can always be enjoyed.

The PGA de Catalunya golf course on Catalonia's Costa Brava was voted one of the ten best golf courses in Europe in 2001 by Golf World magazine and one of its writers, Steve Carr, described it as the 'jewel in the crown'. It truly is a stunning course with the Pyrenees as a backdrop. Ddesigned by Neil Coles and Angel Gallardo, and after only opening at the end of 1998, has already hosted the Sarazen World Open in 1999 and the Spanish Open in 2000. It is located near the small town of Caldes de Malavella in the Costa Brava area of Cataluña and is set on undulating land with evergreens, oak trees and heather lining its perfect fairways. It's a technical course which suits both amateurs and professionals, and boasts some truly spectacular holes.

| |
Club de Golf d'Aro or Mas Nou Golf Club is built high above the resort of 'Platja d'Aro' at the southern end of the Costa Brava in a spectacular setting with panoramic views of the surrounding coast and landscape. It is an undulating course with water hazards and stategically placed bunkers making it challenging but interesting, an opportunity to use every club in your bag. It would be advisable to bring the camera as the views are worth preserving.

Empordà Golf Club |
| |
The Empordà Golf course offers two 18 hole courses, the Links and the Forest. The course was designed by Robert von Hagge, who integrated an area of great natural beauty with two superb golf courses, using the rolling landscape of dunes and pine forest and combining it with two large lakes. The end result has been to create two superb courses for golfers of all abilities and to give them golf in Empordà at its best. The Links course at Empordà Golf meanders around dunes and lakes and one may well imagine being on one of Scotland’s famous courses. The Forest course is tighter and follows the Mediterranean Pines and lakes.
