GOLF

Stoke Park

Stoke Park is surely one of the finest parkland golf courses in the South of England. The fairways appear generous from the tees. However, it is important to get the line and distance right, otherwise you will face challenging second shots. As famous as the golf course is the 18 th century mansion which was used as the setting for the golf scenes in the 1964 James Bond movie Goldfinger, in which 007 had his famous match with Goldfinger.  The film featured the scene where Oddjob spun his steel-rimmed bowler hat at Sean Connery.  It missed 007 but beheaded a statue!

North Hants

North Hants Golf Club is set in idyllic surroundings, with fabulous views across the Hampshire region to soak up along with a course that will challenge you, and ultimately reward you if you play it with discipline, care and to your full potential. It really and truly is an excellent place for any golfer no matter how high or low their handicap.. From its location high up in the countryside, you can enjoy truly exceptional panoramic views and the changes in colours that materialise in front of you as the seasons change.

The Berkshire

Other than the Berkshire, Sunningdale and Wentworth are the only clubs in the whole of the British Isles that can boast two heathland golf courses positioned in the top 100. Many people say that there is nothing better than a day’s golf amongst the forest, heather and springy turf of the Berkshire. The land was once royal hunting forest and dates back to the reign of Queen Anne. Each hole is played in seclusion, the mature sycamore, birch, chestnut and pine trees providing majestic fairway tunnels.

OTHER GOLF OPTIONS CLOSE BY

St George's Hill Golf Club

St George's Hill is the prettiest of the many heathland courses on the Surrey/Berkshire sand belt and, in our opinion, one of the very best. In 1911, a local builder came up with an idea to build luxury fairway-side houses and by chance, Harry Colt was the chosen architect. The course opened in 1913 and is considered to be Colt's greatest work. The land sweeps and undulates like a rollercoaster, and the spectacular panorama from the front of the clubhouse, is one of those views that just grabs your attention.

Wentworth West Course

A name synonymous with golf, Wentworth offers three inland championship golf courses and plays annual host to two of the most important events on the European Tour - the PGA Championship and the World Matchplay. Harry Colt designed both the East Course and West Course in the 1920's and although the East Course gained the early acclaim, the West Course was always considered to be the tougher test and it is this layout that is known and revered throughout the world.

Walton Heath Old Course

Having hosted over 60 major amateur and professional championships in its illustrious history, Walton Heath has been graced by the 1981 Ryder Cup, 5 European Open Tournaments, as well as such prestigious amateur events such as the Senior Open, the English Amateur, the Brabazon Trophy, and the British and English Ladies Amateur. Founded in 1903, The Old Course is one of the finest examples of heathland golf, and is ranked as one of the top 100 courses in the world.

Sunningdale Old Course

Conveniently located less than thirty miles west of London, Sunningdale Golf Club is blessed with two magnificent golf courses, laid out on glorious pieces of heathland. The Old Course, originally designed by former Open Champion, Willie Park, is the more famous of the two but only gained the name "Old" when the New Course, designed by Harry Colt, was opened in 1923. Both courses wind their way through a sea of heather, gorse and pine, while each hole genuinely boasts its own unique character and charm.

West Hill

Founded in 1910, West Hill has remained virtually untouched ever since. The course is routed in an out and back fashion across undulating sandy ground. The fairways are lined with pine, birch and of course, tangly heather. Measuring slightly more than 6,350 yards, West Hill is not long by today's standards, but with only two par fives and a par of 69, it represents an enjoyable and testing challenge. If it's charm that you are looking for, then you need look no further than West Hill. This is a truly delightful golf course.
